Great purchase. I just bought one of these at a local store (it was the only model they carried) since I didn't want to wait for shipping. I've used it twice now. Here are my impressions: It's built solid, and seems like a great value. The clamp (which is removable) does its job very well. However, you may have to be creative in finding a place where you can actually clamp the thing and still use it. I clamped it to my slide-out cutting board. It's easy to adjust the thickness of the pasta. You just pull out the knob on the side, and turn it to the desired position (there are 8 settings, and they each "click" in to place). The recipe/instruction book that comes with it really isn't very good (at least from my 1 time trying a recipe from it). I followed the pasta recipe on there once and it turned out horribly (though it may have been because I was just using it for the first time). I found some great videos on youtube that demonstrate how to make pasta and had much better luck the second time around. I made a batch of fresh spaghetti tonight, and it was absolutely to-die-for. Easily the best spaghetti I've ever had. The difference with fresh pasta is incredible. It's like comparing stale bread to home-baked fresh bread. No comparison. All in all I feel that this is a terrific purchase that met and exceeded my expectations. I'd easily buy this again and see no need to buy a more expensive model -- this does the job perfectly. Big improvement over doing it all by hand I had made pasta a number of times in the past - rolled it out and cut it by hand. I didn't think that a pasta machine would make much difference. I was so wrong. It is so much easier and also tastes better. I think the taste improvement is because the strands are now all standard and so everything gets done at the same time. I did have a small problem with the pasta sticking together as it came out of the machine - which is easily solved by simply dropping some flour through the machine. One problem is that it is a bit difficult to find a place to clamp the machine - the ledge on my kitchen counter just isn't wide enough. I ended up clamping it to the kitchen table - a compromise I'm not entirely happy with. I'm considering buying the lasagna add-on because 101 cookbooks has a recipe that sounds wonderful for completely homemade lasagna. Although, I suppose, I could just run the dough through the machine to the correct thinness and then cut it myself - but I really don't like the cutting part, nor am I any good at it. I glanced at the recipes that came with the machine - but then promptly misplaced it. So, I use whole wheat flour (1/2 cup or so), 1 egg and then add flour or water depending on which it needs. shrug - easy enough for one serving. cheap gears I stripped the gears (for the rollers, not cutters) on this on the 3rd use. Total waste of my money. I know how to make pasta and use a pasta machine, if wimpy arms like mine can strip the gears, so can you. In good faith I called Pragotrade/ Weston to see if I could order new a gear but they will not sell them separately (I like fixing things instead of throwing them out). Lesson: save the receipt or buy a more reputable brand, these are cheaply constructed.

I just used this for the first time today and am just waiting to cook the noodles for dinner. While I have the KPEX set, this fettuccine cutter is one of the cutters in the set and it worked perfectly! I had never made pasta with my KitchenAid and this was the very first stab at it. I just got my new toys 2 days ago. It took me MAYBE an hour to mix the dough (semolina) roll and cut. It may have been even less time because I wasn't timing myself, but there's no doubt it will be faster on the next go around because I was reading the wrong recipe from the book, ARGGGGGGGH! and had to spend more time fixing my error....but once the dough was the correct recipe, everything was a BREEZE. Easy, easy, easy. I can't wait to taste it. Homemade Fettuccine Alfredo for dinner! Mmmmmmmm. The rolling of the dough is FUN. The cutting of the dough was FAST. The one thing I think I did wrong was I had floured and folded my sheets and let them sit while I rolled the entire batch of dough and 2 of the sheets stuck together and it was difficult getting them apart....but I DID. Just make sure to use plenty of flour on your sheets or roll, cut, roll, cut....which I think would be a pain because you would have to change attachments every 5 seconds. The next time I do this I will probably cut my sheets to the length I need (instead of folding), flour and stack the cut sheets until I cut them. OR, if you have the room, just lay all the rolled sheets out flat and do not fold them or stack them. I LOVE these attachments! I've had my KA mixer for 15 years and these have got to be my favorite attachments. If you're thinking about this set, don't hesitate. I highly recommend them! I bought my KPEX set (which is the roller, ALL the pasta cutters AND the ravioli maker) from an online kitchen supply place for $45.00 less than KA or any other place is selling it for. Amazon doesn't sell that set. Google "Katom" and you'll find the complete set, if you're interested. :) Happy pasta making! KitchenAid Pasta rller-love homemade pasta? Fast, easy to use. Easy to keep clean. Sturdy and well built. Great addition to your gadget collection and the price for the two most useful (roller and fetuccini ctter) was terrific. Great experience Ordered Nov 24 and received it Dec 1st by FedEx. The price at around $83 inc delivery was fantastic, versus over $100 elsewhere. Also, there is a manufacturer's cashback of 20% valid to Dec 31 2009 (I hope it works), download the rebate form from: [...] In my case, it was a decision between the Kitchenaid KRPA unit (consisting of pasta roller, fettuccine cutter, and linguine fine cutter) at $[...] (from Amazon) and this model, KFETPRA. We mainly eat lasagne and fettucini so I decided to do without the linguine cutter. The instruction manual offers six pasta recipes: cooking pasta, basic egg pasta, semolina egg pasta, light wheat pasta, whole wheat pasta and spinach pasta. So I might defer buying another pasta cooking book. We had fresh pasta at a New York restaraunt and couldn't believe how amazing the meal tasted. It was so good that it became the compelling reason for wanting this unit. It will be a gift for my wife. It's a new unit, includes a cleaning brush and manual. And as per the manual, never wash or immerse attachments in water or a dishwasher! Clean off dried dough with the supplied brush. Next, off to buy a drying rack and enjoy a fresh pasta meal after Christmas.

Great product, iffy customer service The face plate on my machine disintegrated within 4 months and I have been having a horrible time getting it replaced. I sat on hold for over 2 hours with their customer service in Chatsworth, CA. I never did get through, they closed before they answered my call! That was my 3rd call trying to get it replaced. I love my machine, hate the customer service! Poor quality for too much money Yep, I bought one of these years ago. After seeing the infomercial upteem times I fell for how easy it was to make.Well, folks, it ain't that easy and to date I have never used the item again. It sits, unused, on the shelf. The parts fit poorly and the recipe is off. When I called to complain about this all they did was try to sell me another recipe book! I finally got so frustrated with the Popiel folks not listening to my complaint on the manufacture of the pasta maker and the inaccuracy of the recipie (which by the way they pointed out and their fix was for me to buy the NEW recipe book) that I finally gave up since they seemed to be flummoxed by what to do about my complaint. All I heard was them talking to each other in the background puzzled.Would I suggest this item to anyone? NOPE! Save your money. You can make your own noodles and pasta far better by hand or with one of those stainless steel pasta makers the old Italian ladies used for decades that didn't need to be plugged in, didn't have "parts" that didn't fit properly, etc. I have priced those out at less than $40 each and no shipping charge folks since they can be bought locally. If there was a lesser rating than one I would have given it to Ron on this one.I will admit he is a good showman. Oh, that free bagel cutter? It arrived cracked and the knife was the only good item out of the whole deal.I do own his slicer that I got when I purchased the food dehydrator. That thing is useless also. Save your money, folks and go to Sears or BJ's and buy close to home so if the item is a bust you can actually see the person and demand your money back in person instead of being kept on the phone while they try to sell you even more of the stuff for an item you can't use. What a terrible product I don't want to give it even a 1-star rating. It doesn't deserve any rating, except maybe an F minus! This thing is SOOOOOOO poorly engineered, I'm amazed Ron Popeil shows his face on the street, much less on television. It mixed the dough well enough, but would NOT extrude unless I forced teaspoon-sized wads of dough into the extruder screw. Do you know how long that took to extrude 2 cups of dough? 45 minutes! I had to open the lid and squash the dough in constantly. But wait, there's more! - the mixing paddle turns in the opposite direction of the extruder screw, knocking my pitiful dough wads off the extruder screw. Plus, dough gets caught all over the outside of the turning mechanism and under the outlet, so you lose a lot of it, because the bowl is too small to get your hand in to scrape it out. What a mess! It's like knitting socks in slow motion. So SLOW, so NOISY. I made lasagne noodles with the mold, and they were about 3/4 of the width they should be. It took 45 minutes to extrude what I could've rolled out on a table and cut in less than 5 minutes, and gotten the correct size. Ron Popeil, you owe me an apology! Or, at least an aspirin, because your noisy, slow machine gave me a headache on top of all the frustration.

Villaware Millegnocchi Attachment for Imperia Pasta Machine

This gnocchi maker instantly expands by three the repertoire of anyone who enjoys making homemade pasta. Hitched onto the imported, professional-quality Imperia pasta makers, the MilleGnocchi attachment cranks out cavatelli, gnocchetti sardi, and rigatelli. Feeding a strip of pasta dough into one of three slots on the machine, you'll produce dozens of perfectly formed gnocchi with a few turns of the handle. To clean, just wipe the attachments with a damp towel. --Lynne Sampson
Useful for pasta big fans! I have used my Imperia Millegnocchi only a few times, but I don't agree with the other reviewer that said it was not meant to be used, just for decoration. I find it works fine producing nice looking cavatelli and gnocchetti sardi. The only thing I think is wrong in the instructions is that they say you should use pasta rolled with the wider setting: well, I think it is not enough, it works a lot better if you just knead it well and then make small sausage shapes to pass through the Millegnocchi. And, of course you have to crank it quite slowly to form perfect shapes. It is not something you absolutely need in your kitchen, but if you are a gadget freak like me, I'm sure you'll enjoy this stuff. Using it is a bit like playing with play dough, and it's fun! Do not confuse Gnochetti Sardi with Potato Gnocchi Gnocchi is a type of italian potato dumpling and are rather time consuming to make. I was hoping this machine would help with the shaping of the dough before boiling as it's called the MilleGnocchi attachment. Unfortunately, this machine is not to be used with gnocchi dough. The light fluffy potato dough will stick to all the mechanical workings. If you use a standard pasta dough instead, the attachment will make nicely shaped pasta. nice The past maker works well, but the clamp is not sufficient for most kitchen counters. Requires a real table for use

Making your own pasta is enough of an adventure without having to find places to hang it out to dry. That's what all those clotheslines in Italy are used for when they're not drying clothes. This wooden rack takes about 10 minutes to put together (really) with a Phillips screwdriver. It stands 15 inches high, and has 12 wooden dowels upon which you can hang your fettuccine, spaghetti, capellini, and the like. Go for it. Making fresh pasta is fun and worth it--and if it doesn't work out, you can always use it to hang your socks out to dry. Ciao! --Shannon Borg
I've waited so long I won't discuss in detail the myriad of homemade ventures that were undertaken to try to make a 'rack,' (except the dowel rods hanging out of the empty wine bottles, that was pretty good) but will comment that it is almost criminal to not sell this with the pasta machine. Unless you are cooking for one -- not likely after kneeding for 25 minutes -- you're basically at a loss once the first batch comes marching out the machine an onto your arm. 'Where should I put this?' you ask innocently. The answer is that there is no good place anywhere in your kitchen. It will stick to itself and everything else and it will dry improperly and you will be becoming increasingly furious as you basically ruin every other batch. Unless you want to initmately know the anger of a sicilian, buy this. A nice convenient product that we've put to good use This is easy to set up and easy to store, as well as being easy to clean. I really enjoy making fresh pasta at home, and this drying rack was the perfect addition to my set-up! Well made and durable. Not a bad rack The good stuff:-Has LOTS of pasta drying space.-Dowels come off for easy manuevering of pasta.-I find it to be attractive, but I like simple wooden thingsThe bad stuff:-Difficult to store, it doesn't fold on its own-Difficult to take apart, the screws on mine were stripped-A little flimsyOverall, not a bad buy for the price - but there are better racks out there!

Villaware V180 Pasta Machine Motorizer
From Villaware

The pasta machine motorizer is powerful and quiet with two speeds, and automates the hand-crank machines instantly. No table clamp is needing so you can use anywhere in the kitchen.

Makes rolling out pasta 100 times easier! I have an Imperia pasta maker, which I love, and use all the time. I haven't bought dried pasta in months. There were some annoying problems with it though, such as: 1) clamping it to the side of the table, as it left gouges underneath and the table moved around as I cranked, 2) how long it took, and how much elbow-grease, to crank out the pasta strips, 3) how the crank handle doesn't attach, it just sets inside the slot and continually falls out, and 4) having only one hand to guide the pasta strip through the rollers or cutters. This motor solves ALL those problems! With the motor, you can set the machine directly on your countertop and just go to town. It takes literally moments to crank out a strip. I just leave the motor running, fold the strip over, lower the width dial and slide it through again until I have the perfect width. Having two hands to guide it through at the top, and catch it beneath, is a huge help. And it sure saves on the amount of effort -- no more do I end up sweaty and out of breath! (Although I must admit, my right arm was getting rather buff.) I know it's expensive in comparison to the machine, but believe me when I tell you it's worth it. Once you've mastered the art of making pasta strips (getting the dough consistency right, etc.) this will make your pasta machine as much a part of your kitchen as your coffee maker or toaster, it's that much easier. I wouldn't try to make pasta without it I bought the motorizer along with the "Imperia Pasta Machine SP. 150 with Double Cutter Attachment". Using the motor with the pasta machine not only eliminates the need to use the hand crank, it eliminates the need to clamp the pasta machine. Not having to use the clamp means that you can position the machine anywhere you wish on your work surface, not just on the edge. I found it was more comfortable to place the machine about midway to the wall on my counter top. Using the motor also frees up both hands for manipulating the pasta dough as it is being processed. I honestly don't think I could use the thinnest settings with just one hand to manipulate the pasta dough. The dough becomes quite fragile when it thins and tends to want to stretch and presumably, break at the thinner settings. By using two hands to manipulate the dough, I find it easy to process the dough through the machine even at the thinnest settings. The Imperia pasta machine is heavy and unbalanced with the double cutter installed. It will not stand unless clamped, but with the motorizer installed the pasta machine is balanced and will happily sit on any flat level surface. You can put the clamp in the same drawer as the crank. You'll not need either. ;) Great pasta helper I brought this motor along with the Villaware pasta machine. The motor make pasta making easier and quicker. I am glad I got them both. It is well worth the money. The motor is like an extra helping hand. All you need to concentrate is feed in the dough and catch it on its way out.

LOVE IT! Norpro Pasta Machine I've eaten homemade pasta before, and have attempted to make it in the past but did NOT know what I was doing, so it didn't turn out that great. I am in culinary school and we made pasta the other day. I was very impressed with it! I went right out and bought one after class. This is the one I bought because it looked most like the one we used at school. You either need the recipe and/or instructions, or someone to tell you what to do. It should have come with a clamp. I'll give you the basic method that I used. One cup of all purpose flour, in a pile on the counter (or put it on a cookie sheet if you want easier cleanup). Make a well in the center of the pile, and add a drizzle of olive oil and one egg. Start, with your fingers, by breaking up the egg and mixing it with the oil, then a little of the side flour, then a little more and a little more. The object at this point is to keep the egg/oil still contained in the center of your pile. Keep on mixing it up until you have a pretty good dough-y ball. You might not use all the flour. Fold the dough over toward you, then push it with the heel of your hand away from you. Repeat this 10-12 times until the dough starts to get firm. At this point, let it rest for about 5 minutes. Then make a rectangle with it, then fold both sides in (like a tri-fold wallet). Put the dough into the machine (not the cutting side, but the rolling side) and roll it through. It should be on setting "1". When it comes out, fold it again, put it back through, etc. You will do this 5-6 times on setting "1". Turn it to "2" and repeat. Put it through each setting one time, all the way up to "8" or "9". I would use "8" for fettucini and "9" for the spaghetti, but that's my personal preference. Did I mention that your pot of water should be boiling? Also, at about "7" or "8", you might have to cut the dough in half because it's getting fairly long at this point. Cutting it made it easier to handle. Move the handle from the rolling section to either the fettucini or spaghetti section. Put the dough in the top, and roll it out. It'll come out in strips. Keep these floured, not heavily but with just enough so they aren't sticking together. You need to have enough water so that the strips aren't crowded in the pot. Cook it for just about 3-4 minutes; it doesn't take long for fresh pasta. Good luck! You can email me if you have any questions. I love this device! I just got my norpro pasta machine today and I love it! I haven't used it for making pasta yet, but I used it today to make crispy whole wheat crackers. My only complaint is that the handle slips out while I'm rolling because there is no way to lock it in place (that I know of anyway). Other than that, it is well worth the money spent! Thanks Norpro! Love this machine!!!! Had it out of the box and ready to use in minutes...to the reviewer who complained about instructions...seriously, there are 4 pieces total (a handle, a clamp, the main roller unit, and the cutting attachment). I had instructions but I didnt bother looking at them until after I was done. The handle comes off and on easily because you need to be able to swap it from the rollers to the cutters. It could snap in a little more securely (hence the 4-star review) but it wasn't just falling off as others implied. Overall - I love this machine for making small batches of homemade pasta. Definately worth it.

Junk -- buy the Imperia pasta machine instead1
This is NOT the same as the Villaware IMPERIA pasta machine! This is a cheap immitation that just doesn't work.

I bought this pasta machine because I dropped my Imperia one, and rather than just replace it with the same item, this one came with an additional pasta-cutting attachment as well as the ravioli maker, for only $9 more. The pasta machine itself is less sturdy than the original Imperia -- it's lighter and more fragile, plus the width dial is more difficult to use. I was able to make pasta sheets okay with it, but when I went to use the spaghetti cutter, it didn't work AT ALL! It simply did not grab the dough strip. I could force it in there and crank, but then it only pulled the center of it, and the outside edges would get all caught up and gummed up, and never go through the cutter. I tried all the pasta cutter attachments, and they all did the same thing.

On my Imperia, the cutters would grab the strip as soon as I started cranking, and cut very clean, perfect pasta strands. With this one, I could not get a single decent cut strand of pasta. I boxed it up and sent it back.

I also tried the ravioli maker. It's pretty tricky to work, although it is possible to get nicely shaped raviolis out of it. The problem is, they're too small, and have hardly any filling in them.

I would suggest using the Villaware 10-square Ravioli Maker instead -- it's just a metal tray-like gadget that doesn't attach to the machine.

I was very disappointed in this product, as it is very poor quality, and truly doesn't work. I don't see how they can sell it -- what good is a pasta maker if you can't actually cut the strips into strands? I am a HUGE fan of my Villaware Imperia pasta maker, and use it all the time. But this one is junk.

Don't be scared, it works.3
I was hesitant to buy this product based on the two negative, most up-voted reviews. One goes on about how crummy and unworkable the product is; the other talks about black and silver metal particles coming out of the device.

I purchased it anyway, based on the other reviews that haven't been voted up past the two negative reviews for some reason.

The bottom line is that the product is relatively inexpensive and it works.

I've encountered no metal particles in my pasta. The pasta can travel to the sides as you crank if you're not careful, but it does go through. The product does work. It appears to me to be solidly built. Its manufacture does not appear tinny or crummy.

The main body of the unit is designed to flatten your dough to the desired thickness. There are seven settings. You start with the most thick and work your pasta down to the desired level of thinness.

The other pieces are attachments that involve the second stage where you make the pasta the desired shape (fettuccine style, spaghetti style, etc.). You attach the unit by sliding it into grooves on the front of the main unit. You then attach the crank into a hole on the side of the attachment and turn it to work the pasta through. The attachments easily slide in and out but stay in place once attached.

So don't be scared. It works.

There are a few annoyances, however.

- The bottom support "pads" aren't pads at all, but pieces of hard white plastic. On smooth surfaces, the machine will slide during use if not held in place.

- The height of the crank is higher than the machine, so you will have to use the machine with the edge of it near the edge of a counter.

- When you put one of the attachments (to cut the pasta into the various kinds of pasta shapes) on the unit, the weight distribution isn't completely stable, and it can topple over if you're not careful. This really hasn't been much of a problem for me, though. It can topple, but generally doesn't.

- The crank is removable and does not lock in place. If you forget this fact, it can fall out on you if you move the unit and haven't taken out the crank.

And, lastly, some helpful advice as there may be other newbie pasta makers out there like myself.

Before using the unit, make sure you have enough room. You will need somewhere to lay out or hang your pasta.

There may be a reason why the "pads" on the main unit aren't sticky pads. As you crank the pasta out, you have the option to slide the unit so that the pasta can be flat when it comes out. Imagine feeding out a length of rope as you walk backwards. If you do that, the rope will form a relatively straight line. If you stay stationary, the rope will just fall in front of you, folding and coiling on itself.

Depending on the pasta recipe and thickness setting you use, your pasta may be brittle and break as it folds or may stick to itself when it remains in contact with itself for some time. So I think sliding the unit as you crank or having someone else around to gently grab the pasta and pull it forward can be a great help.

Manage your pasta-making in stages by portioning out the dough into small portions, so that the unprocessed pasta isn't sitting out, drying up, and becoming brittle and the pasta being processed doesn't have a chance to stick to itself once made because your attention is on managing your work space and dealing with finding a place for your pasta, moving it around gently, making sure the unprocessed pasta isn't getting too dry, etc.

My first few attempts at pasta making were a mess because I didn't do this. Pasta was everywhere, and my real-estate for working was dwindling rapidly. I painted myself in a corner.

Give yourself lots of time and room by making sure you have a large working area. Portion out the dough, keeping the portions you aren't processing in the fridge wrapped in saran wrap.

Also, depending on your recipe, the cooking time for the pasta may be very different from what you expect. I would work with really small portions at first, cooking experimentally and sampling often while boiling.

Fresh pasta cooking is different than cooking store bought stuff. Some kinds of fresh pasta take longer than you expect to get to the right mouth-feel, others take a lot less time.

The low price of this unit it makes it ideal for beginners like myself. I am sure there are other units that are better, but this one works for me at my current stage of culinary development. I figure three stars would be a fair rank in this regard.

Good luck and have fun!

Nice shape, but with a lot of BLACK and SILVER IRON POWDER2
This machine can give you a very nice shaped pasta if you prepare the dough with bread machine. However, it will also return you a pasta sheet with a lot of BLACK, SILVER IRON POWDER. Inititally, I though it is a normal manufacturing problem, and it could be cleaned by passing the dough for several times. Unfortunately, I repeated this process for over two hours (more than 50 times), it still returned me the same thing and with the same amount of IRON POWDER. I don't recommend this machine unless you know how to clean it entirly.

Dried pasta is good. Fresh pasta is extraordinary. The techniques are not difficult and the result is well worth it. Press a ball of dough through two rollers to form a uniformly thin sheet for slicing into fettuccine or noodles. If you don't want to crank by hand there is an electric motor attachment available.

Works Like A Charm5
I really wanted a metal manual pasta machine, but was discouraged as I read details about other machines. I finally opted for the Atlas 150 - it was reasonably-priced, made in Italy, and had garnered positive reviews.

I am posting because I want to tell you that this machine lived up to its billing. It is easy to use, convenient, and a cinch to clean. My wife (she's half Italian) and I previously made pasta by hand. Thanks to this machine, our process has been signficantly reduced. We are eating fresh pasta more frequently, and the pasta it produces--if working with a reliable recipe (which we do)--garners compliments at our dinner parties.

I recommend that you have two people to work with the dough as you crank it through the machine. Trust me, it will make your life easier. Plus you can enjoy conversation and time spent with your partner.

I bought this machine around Thanksgiving (2006). Absolutely no regrets. Highly recommended!

So easy and so much fun!5
I've read some horror stories about making pasta with a machine, so I was prepared for it to be a challenge. It couldn't have been easier! It rolled and cut effortlessly. The key must be the dough ... which can't be sticky or overly dry. I made mine with 3 eggs and 300 grams of bread flour in a Kitchenaid mixer with a dough hook. The dough was a little on the dry side so I added a few drops of water. Then I wrapped the dough in plastic wrap for 30 minutes and let it rest before rolling. There was absolutely NO clean-up needed for the machine when I was finished. Great fun!

Well worth the money!5
I just recently purchased this pasta maker after attempting to hand-roll my dough. As hand rolling took much time and caused hand cramps and ugly pasta, I decided to buy a machine. It's amazing! I don't think I'll ever go back to eating boxed pasta again! It looks better than pasta from a box and by making it myself, I can add whatever I like to the dough, such as fresh basil. Yum!

Item was in bad shape upon delivery - item photo also misleading.2
I ordered this pasta maker for my husbands birthday, so I was very excited when it arrived on the estimated delivery date. However, once I opened the shipping box I saw that the actual product box was in bad shape. The corners were torn in spots, and it was dented, dusty, and flimsy. I opened it and the first thing I saw were multiple spots of rust on the actual pasta maker, which was also dusty and grimy.

Additionally, the default picture shows the pasta roller (I think thats what the round black brush with the handle is - I am not up on my pasta machine terminology), but it was not included in my shipment even though it is listed in the product description as an included item.

I am giving 2 stars because the condition of the "new" product sucked and an item was missing, but Amazon made the return/refund process very easy.

Gnocchi Board Makes Beautiful food4
I love the gnocchi board because it makes my gnocchi look so professional. I have seen gnocchi made without the ridges, but I think the ridges make a beautiful presentation. The product does not come with instructions on how to use it. I only found out a gnocchi board existed by watching it used on The Food Network. I am assuming only people who know what a gnocchi board is will buy it and already know how to use it. The price was extraordinarily reasonable.

Must have5
If your into making your own Gnocchi, After using this one time, you'll never go back to using the tins of a fork...... it's so easy to use. I'm finding my self finding different recipes and trying them all with this new toy. It's really easy to use and they come out just like Mario's. It's great........ and the cost is no big deal....... However, you do have to take care of this, it's real wood, and needs to be treated as such....... not the top shelf of the dishwasher...... this needs to be brushed clean, wiped down and put away dry.......

Simple and to the point4
A very simple product, but found that it worked as advertised. My only complaint would be any sort of instructions for use. I had seen one used before, but if you hadn't, instructions would've helped.

tiny raviolis that aren't sealed1
This unit makes tiny raviolis (about the size of a nickel) and we were not successful at getting them to seal. Then to make matters worst, Today's Concept charged a 10% restocking fee.

Very badly made1
My wife got me Imperia's pasta roller and ravioli machine at the same time. Their pasta maker works well, but this ravioli attachment is terrible.

There are two wheels, one with holes for the filling. There are supposed to be wavy ridges that separate the raviolis, but the wheels aren't round, and they touch sometimes and not others. The wavy lines look like they were drawn freehand by an 8-year-old, and then parts of the lines were machined off (!) for unknown reasons.

I was at first surprised that it didn't work and thought I was doing something wrong. But if you inspect it, there is no way this thing can work. I am about to throw it away and I hate it so much I am taking the time to write this review.

Great product5
This pasta dryer is great! It's compact and durable. I kept it's original box to store it in. I dried a whole lot of pasta in a small space. Great companion to the KitchenAid pasta maker.

Great Pasta Drying Rack!5
My wife and I received this pasta drying rack as a wedding gift along with various other KitchenAid products. If we hadn't have received it as a gift, I would have bought it and considered it $40 well spent.

The pasta rack is well designed and easy to deploy and pack up for storage. When you open it from the package all of the hanging rods are aligned with each other. Turn the black wheel at the top of the drying rack about one full turn and all of the hanging rods space themselves out evenly (see product picture). No need to position each hanging rod by hand, which would be a very tedious chore. Pull each of the feet down and then lift up on the ends to lock them in place.

Craftily designed to be stored in the top of the drying rack is a "transfer rod" which conforms to the hanging rods to allow you to transfer the pasta to each hanging rod. What we do is cut the pasta through our KitchenAid pasta plate running off the stand mixer and just before the pasta is nearly finished being cut, slide the transfer rod from one side of the pasta as it's hanging from the cutter plate to the other and then the pasta is now hanging from the rod. We then place the transfer rod on top of one of the hanging rods, twist the transfer rod 180 degrees and now the pasta is hanging from the drying rack.

The pasta rack easily held the amount of pasta produced by using the recipe in the KitchenAid pasta plate owners manual, which is suppose to yield 1-1/2 pounds of dough. Maybe a bit more room for pasta, but definitely not enough room for a full second batch.

The pasta rack is very stable and is made of stainless steel tube for the center column and legs. The bottom base is made of plastic along with the hanging rods, transfer rod, and turning wheel at the top. All the surfaces are very smooth and easy to clean with just a damp rag.

The pasta drying rack is made in Italy.

Does everything promised5
This product is a convenient tool for drying pasta. I assembled it in minutes, hung plenty of pasta on it, the rack was reasonably stable, and hand washing the arms was not that difficult since they consist of a smooth plastic. I looked at several alternatives before buying this one and didn't see anything else that came close in terms of hanging volume, convenience, and materials.

KitchenAid SNPA Pasta Maker Plates for Food Grinder Attachment for Stand Mixers

These sturdy plastic plates work in place of the metal cutters of your food grinder to produce thin and thick spaghetti noodles, thin flat noodles, wider lasagna noodles, and macaroni. Turn the mixer speed to 10, drop walnut-size pieces of dough into the food tray, and catch the noodles as they're extruded through the plates. When you're through, put them in the dishwasher. Then store them neatly and easily in the included case, which doubles as a food stomper. --Betsy Danheim

Couldn't have been easier4
I just made my first batch of spaghetti with this attachment and after having read the horror stories here and the warnings in the Kitchenaid guide that it might require several batches to get it right, I was stunned at how easy and painless it proved to be.

The spaghetti came out quite nice, albeit a little curled on the ends when it first came out. My biggest dread was dealing with the fresh product sticking together, but it came out essentially dry to the touch and didnt stick at all. In fact, I didnt even bother laying it out in a single row, just separated it a little before dropping into the pot. If I were to guess, I think the key to my painless experience was letting it rest in the fridge for 30 minutes wrapped tightly in plastic. I know there's alot of complex flour chemistry going on in that resting period.

Furthermore, if you are wondering, the fresh pasta was far tastier than the dry stuff. I can't wait to toss it with some fresh sauce next summer. Good luck!

Somewhat effective, if expensive, pasta attachment3
For what it is (all plastic), this item is rather expensive. But, since I already had the mixer and the food grinder, I went ahead and got this. I agree with the other users that some of the attachments (spaghetti, thinner noodles) make the pasta tend to stick together. More of a problem might be that you really have to tweak the recipe a bit to get a good consistency. I prefer this for lasagne or fettucini noodles myself. It is functional. I would not want to do a large amount of pasta in this at one sitting because I am afraid it would burn out the motor (upon doing a full recipe for the first time, smoke emanated from my mixer. A call to Kitchen Aid said this was probably normal, as my mixer wasn't that old and oil was burning off, but I never did a full recipe again). I would really love to instead get the rolling pasta plate attachment for the Kitchen Aid, but at (price) it's a bit too much of an investment to me. This is functional for what I need it for.

If you LOVE your KitchenAid Stand Mixer...this is a no,no!1
I have a Profesional 6 model, and I did everything the recipe said for 1 batch of regular spaghetti pasta. It didn't kill the mixer, but the motor became very hot! I will never use it again. I also have the roto slicer/shredder, fruit/veggie strainer, food grinder & sausage stuffer attachments...none of these have even made my stand mixer very warm. --That tells me the pasta maker attachment is a bad product. I am thankful that my model is 525 watts...I could only imagine what would have happened if I had a classic 300 watt model!

My best advice is to pick up an inexpensive pasta machine or an Emperia hand crank pasta machine. They run between $20-40 without a motor or $80-120 with a motor (that you can also buy separately for $50-80). --A very small price to pay, if you want to keep your KitchenAid Stand Mixer!

works well but...3
lots easier to stick in the dishwasher than a pan but the pasta tastes rather...mealy. Odd texture.

It does not cook faster, but you don't have to have a pot.5
You have to have boiling water and it saves room by not having to have to cook with a pot. I have mostly done pasta, but it works with beans and shrimp.

Junk1
I don't know if we did something wrong, I believe we followed the directions to a tee, but it didn't work for anything. The pasta came out slimy and undercooked and vegetables were simply warm and not cooked at all. Save your money and get a nice stainless steel pot with a collender in it. It is a multi-tasker that will give you years of service.

dangerous1
If I could give this product a 0 I would have. Upon poring hot water into the instant pasta cooker, it cracked in several places spilling boiling hot water onto my hands. The cooker was not damaged or cracked in any way before the hot water went in. All I can say is be warned and careful using this product.

not a safe product1
I am surprised I am not hearing more comments about this product in regards to the cracking. I bought mine a while back and used it about 5 times and loved it. Then I started noticing a couple of cracks in the plastic so I put it away. Then one day I wanted to make a small amount of pasta so I dug it out. I poured the boiling water in over the pasta and in a few seconds it started cracking more and leaking - I put the thermal thing on it and carefully set it in the sink in case it broke completely
This product is dangerous and soon we will hear of someone suing after getting third degree burns from boiling water after it explodes in someone's hands. I think maybe this product is so cheap that people just figure oh well and throw it away. Also it is basically only good for a small amount of long pasta - I tried pasta shells in it and they just floated and didn't cook right. It's good for asparagus too. If you try to cook a large box of long pasta in it it doesn't seem to cook right. Aside from all that - the fact that it can't handle repeated use with boiling water makes it a poorly tested, unsafe gimmick.
Most of the As Seen On TV products that I have tried are garbage anyway. I just don't buy them anymore.

Al Dente4
With all the hype of the Pasta Express on television, and in so many homes, there are definitely bound to have been a spinoffs. This is no acception, with the Pasta Magic. It is a very convient, and simple way for you cook anything from vegetables like brocoli and carrots, to pasta of all kinds like ravioli and egg noodles. It is very convient and easy to use. Unlike the pasta express however, you get more than one pasta maker, you have a smaller one for convience for single portions, and for making frankfurters. If you want a nice and easy way to make pasta, than this is the item for you.

KitchenAid KPRA Pasta Roller Attachment for Stand Mixers
From KitchenAid

We're sure you'll agree, the flavor and texture of boxed pasta pales in comparison to fresh homemade pasta. But who has the time and energy for cranking dough through a manual machine? Fortunately that workhorse of the kitchen, your KitchenAid stand mixer is happy to do the work with this attachment. Make egg noodles, lasagna, tortellini, fettuccine, and angel hair pasta. Add herbs and seasonings to compliment any recipe.

If you have a passion for perfectly prepared pasta, try making your own delectable lasagna noodles, fettuccine, or linguine fini with this pasta roller set that fits all KitchenAid stand mixers. The three attachments include a pasta roller, a fettuccine cutter, and a linguine fini cutter. Just prepare pasta dough and form it into small rectangles which are then fed into one of the attachments. Out come uniform lasagna noodles, fettuccine, linguine, or angel hair pasta. The pasta can be enjoyed fresh or frozen or dried for later. Complete directions, cooking tips, and recipes are included, though cleaning the attachments can be a bit of a challenge, as they can't be washed in water, and any dried-on pasta particles must be removed with the included cleaning brush and toothpicks. --Marcie Bovetz

I LOVE IT, but...5
I have had every kind of pasta roller - the chrome manual kind, the one that does everything (mixes, extrudes) and now this. I LOVE it. I love having my hands free to hold the dough going in and coming out and not having the manual roller shift all over the place. I am amazed how thin I can make the dough - tissue paper-thin. My only complaint, and I make it for the sake of completeness, is the fact that it took SEVERAL batches of dough (the first of which I was willing to sacrifice) to "clean" it out. I noticed what looked like metallic deposits all over my dough, especially on the edges. This was very distressing to me. I tried wiping the roller with a towel (for about an hour), I tried rubbing it with olive oil and I tried dusting it with flour, all of which helped, but it was ridiculous how much time I had to spend and how many batches of dough I had to waste (about four)! Overall, however, I am very pleased, but I think they should include in the instructions a statement to the effect that you should expect to see the deposits and how to clean it, or they should make sure it's cleaner before sending it out!

Heavy duty, easy & fun to use, great pasta!5
I decided to purchase this attachment instead of the other Kitchenaid pasta attachment (plates + food grinder) because I wanted to be able to make any kind of pasta: spinach, semolina, whole wheat, egg-free etc, and not be confined to a small number of recipes that were sure to work well with the plates. It has worked like a charm. Even the egg-free spinach pasta, which was very dry and crumbly to start, came out perfect.

The widest setting on the roller works to knead/roll the dough until its pliable enough to continue. Its amazing how such flaky dough can become so evenly mixed with minimal effort. From this point, its just a few more settings until you've got angel-hair thin dough. It is important to use the cutter before the ends of your dough dry out, lest they will clog the cutter.

Pasta is my favorite food, and this contraption makes it possible to make my own healthy, delicious pasta recipes at home, quickly!

Solid and capable5
I highly recommend this attachment.
This attachment is very well made (Made in Italy). It attaches, detaches and cleans up easily, and most importantly, it works very well. This device only makes flat pasta so if you want rigatoni or penne, you'll be disappointed. I've made fettuccine and ravioli. After you've eaten home made semolina pasta, box pasta will never measure up. Be aware that making fettuccine is not that difficult but fresh ravioli is another story...it's quite a bit of work even with this machine. Making the filling and stuffing and sealing each ravioli is laborious. However, prior to getting this device, I used to use a hand crank machine. That's just way too much work. These rollers make the job manageable. The roller makes very consistent pasta, even when you use the thin settings.

My suggestion for a good pasta recipe is :
2 cups Semolina flour
1 cup unbleached flour
3 eggs
½ teaspoon of salt
6 tablespoons of water (most recipes say 3 but that just doesn't work well.)
*Some recipes like the one that comes in the box with this attachment, recommend the use of oil. I have not tried that approach yet. It probably works fine too, you be the judge.

** Some process advice: mix the 2 flours in the Kitchen aid bowl using the paddle beater. Mix the eggs and water together with a whisk and slowly add them to the mixer while in motion on setting 2. After the big, kind if hard dough ball forms, stop and change over to the dough hook for a couple of minutes. If you make ravioli, you'll want flexible dough or you'll get cracking. If the dough cracks or if air is captured inside during the sealing process, they are garbage as they will come apart in the boiling water.

To get dough flexible enough that it doesn't crack while making the ravioli, be sure to cover the dough between the first and second rollings and not let it sit longer that 30 minutes. Here's where the oil recipes may have an advantage...also, a light coating of water will help make a good seal.

I also picked up the Villaware 10-Square Ravioli Maker from Amazon. It is a metal and plastic form that helps you make 10-2.5 inch square rav's at one time. It works well but 2.5 inch rav's are a bit small. You will also have a tough time getiing a sheet of rolled pasta out of the rollers that is wide enough to cover the form as the rollers are close to the same width as the form.

Good luck!

There's nothing like the REAL taste of Homemade pasta!5
I have had an Atlas pasta maker and one of these cutters for years, making fresh pasta is one of the delights of cooking. FAST, EASY and INEXPENSIVE, fresh pasta is the perfect meal to impress your friends and family. The Atlas is all stainless steel, and clean up is a breeze with a brush and a soft cloth. It only takes about 20 minutes to roll out pasta and cut it any way you want, then cook for about 7-8 minutes for a gourmet taste. You'll never go back to "packaged" pasta again.

The ravioli maker is a real piece of junk.1
For regular pasta, this set is a dream. The ravioli maker, though, is a total piece of junk. Different friends and I have attempted to make ravioli with it on four different occasions. It shreds the dough and wastes all the fillings. After I bought it, I went back to read the reviews and there were dozens of reviews attesting to the same problem, not a positive review among them for the ravioli maker. Wonder what happened to all those negative reviews?

For rolling out and cutting flat pasta, this is a great set. But, unless you need another door stop, don't order the set that includes the ravioli maker.

Much better than a manual machine!5
Having the Kitchenaid do all the cranking is great - and the Spaghetti maker actually makes ROUND spaghetti, not just tagliatini type little flat noodles.

NOTE for those that say the attachments turn and go around, read the instructions. YOU HAVE to insert if far enough into the mixer so that the little pin on the pasta maker fits into the notch near the tightening screw. IF you don't do that, it will go around and around.

The Ravioli maker was a surprise, it is manual, but I guess that makes sense, That is the one I haven't used yet.

KitchenAid KPEX Pasta Excellence Set Attachment Pack5
